We can help you get started The CT Family Support Network is a network of families who have children with disabilities. They are parents interested in helping other parents to find the supports they need. The Network was created by the Connecticut Family Support Council, a legislatively established partnership of parents and professionals working to improve supports for families of children with disabilities.What support can I find through my local family support network?
- Access to local and statewide email listserves for sharing and accessing information and resources
- Networking and socializing with other families Parent training and educational workshop
- A collective voice that reaches policymakers
- Agency referrals
- A philosophy that empowers parents
- Community-based assistance and support
- Telephone support
- Web-site links
- Regular Parent Support Group meetings
- IFSP and PPT preparation support
- Help with advocating for local programs/services
- Child-care and travel stipends (limited amount) to attend family support events
SAVE THE DATE 11/13/08 Medical Home Forum
On Thursday, November 13, 2008 the Family Support Network will host a Statewide forum on the basics of the Medical Home Model as it impacts families raising children with special health care needs and professionals who work them. The Child Health and Development Institute will be helping to sponsor this event as our partners in the DPH Medical Home Grant that we are working on. We will present a panel discussion, keynote speaker Dr. Rich Antonelli from CCMC and facilitated lunch discussions from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
This forum is designed to be an introduction to Medical Home for those who work with families in case management and service coordination capacities, as well as parents, care givers and interested professionals. DDS case managers and nurses, Birth to Three System Service Coordinators and staff, DCF nurses and school nurses are some of the targeted professionals who would benefit from this presentation.

*How does It help children with special health care needs and their families?
*What do case managers, care coordinators and nurses need to know that will help in their role?This forum is free to attendees.
